Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev dismissed the country’s government.

The corresponding decree was published on the website of the President of Kazakhstan, writes UA.

“In accordance with Article 70 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, I decide to accept the resignation of the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the document says.

The duties of prime minister have been temporarily entrusted to Alikhan Smailov, first deputy head of government.

The decree comes into force on the day of its signing.

As you know, after the jump in prices for liquefied gas on January 2, “gas” protests began in Kazakhstan. Thousands of rallies took to the streets of the cities of Zhanaozen and Aktau. Then protests spread to all regions of the country.

On January 4, protesters and police clashed in Almaty. On the same day, Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the Mangistau region and Almaty.
