Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin announced Ireland will allocate an additional €25 million to Ukraine to strengthen its air defense systems, speaking at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, UATV English reports.
Martin also said Ireland is working with other EU member states to accelerate Ukraine’s path toward European Union membership during its presidency of the Council of the EU.
“The key task is to accelerate the enlargement process for Ukraine. We’ve already spoken with many member states, but our overall goal is to open all negotiation clusters by the end of our presidency,” Martin said.
He added that Ireland aims to push forward the opening of the second and third negotiation clusters as quickly as possible.
“We believe Ukraine will add value to the European Union and will get something in return,” Martin said.
