British defense company BAE Systems and a strategic defense partner in Ukraine have signed a licensing agreement for local production of Light Gun artillery systems.
The company announced this following the Farnborough International Airshow, UATV English writes.
According to the announcement, this licensing agreement will provide access to the technical information and support from BAE Systems needed to manufacture the first gun for testing.
“The strategic partnership will support development of a modification of the L119 light gun for use by the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the company emphasized.
This agreement builds on BAE Systems’ long-standing support for Ukraine and its cooperation with Ukrainian industry. The name of the Ukrainian defense enterprise with which the agreement was signed is not disclosed in the announcement.
“Strong defense capability depends on reliable strategic industrial partnerships. This agreement combines BAE Systems’ expertise in artillery with our strategic defense partner’s knowledge of Ukraine’s operational needs, to support the development of sovereign defense capability where it’s most needed,” stressed Giles Ambrose, Director of Engineering, Technology and Strategy at BAE Systems Weapon Systems UK.
Media recently reported that the United Kingdom signed contracts with several companies to develop its first ballistic missile in more than half a century, seeking both to support Ukraine and to reduce Europe’s dependence on American weapons.
Also on July 16, former UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced €300 million in support for the delivery of 16 aircraft that will help protect Ukrainian skies.
