At a number of overseas polling stations for Moldova’s parliamentary elections on Sunday, reports were received of alleged bomb threats.

This was reported by the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the MFA, such reports concerned polling stations in Brussels, Rome, Genoa, Bucharest, Asheville in the United States, and Alicante in Spain.

“The bomb threats began exactly as the authorities had previously warned — that this would happen as part of the Russian Federation’s interference in the electoral process in the Republic of Moldova,” the statement said.

The ministry added that Moldovan authorities were prepared for such a scenario and are cooperating with other states “to ensure that the electoral process is not disrupted.”

“Election monitoring cameras installed at polling stations are functioning and keeping watch over electoral materials to ensure they remain intact until the voting process resumes,” the MFA of Moldova added.

Parliamentary elections in Moldova on September 28 are considered decisive for the country’s future.

Earlier, reports emerged of a series of election interference campaigns organized by Russia.

On Sunday, there were also reports of a cyberattack on Moldova’s electoral infrastructure.
