Canada stresses that the strongest guarantee of Ukraine’s security is a powerful Armed Forces, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said in Ottawa.
“Any security guarantees must start with a strong Ukrainian army. This means weapons, training, and resilience,” Carney emphasized.
He underlined that Ukraine’s security must be comprehensive — on land, at sea, and in the air.
“Members of the Coalition of the Willing will have the opportunity to support all these elements. We will see what role Canada will play within this large group,” the Prime Minister noted.
Carney added that Canada is actively participating in discussions on future security guarantees for Ukraine.
“The participation of the United States is essential, but Canada may also have an important role,” he assured.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the security guarantees being developed for Ukraine must be equivalent to NATO’s Article 5 and include long-term financing of the Armed Forces.
