Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Matti Maasikas, welcomes the election by the Council of Judges of Ukraine of representatives to the first composition of the Ethics Council according to its quota.

This was reported by UA with reference to the ambassador’s statement on his Twitter page.

“The Council of Judges has nominated its candidates to the Ethics Council of the High Council of Justice. A good step forward in the implementation of justice reform. Now the HCJ needs to create an Ethics Council, which can be completed within a week – and work can start” – Maasikas wrote.

According to the results of the secret ballot, Lev Kishakevych, Yuriy Triasun, Volodymyr Siverin, and Tetiana Chumachenko were elected candidates to the Ethics Council under the quota of the Council of Judges.

Earlier, the head of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio called on Ukraine to urgently create an Ethics Council – a body that should monitor the integrity of members of the High Council of Justice.
