Sending foreign troops to Ukraine would show Vladimir Putin that it is not up to him to decide how the West will help Kyiv. This was stated by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, FREEDOM reports.
Also, the head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) added that training the Ukrainian military on the territory of Ukraine is more practical than in other NATO states.
“You don’t need to transport Ukrainian military personnel around the world. You have everything they need right here. In addition, instructors stationed as part of the coalition to train Ukrainians in Ukraine will be protected by air defense systems, which in turn implies that part of the Ukrainian sky will be protected by air defense systems. In addition, this step will show Putin that it is not up to him to decide how we will help Ukraine,” Landsbergis said.
Lithuania’s support for Ukraine is an example for Europe and an inspiration for Europeans. This was stated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during her visit to Vilnius. Der Leyen met with the Prime Minister and President of Lithuania, and also spoke at the country’s Diet.
“You have opened your homes to thousands of refugees and given them full access to your economy. You raised funds and bought drones and radars for the Ukrainian armed forces. And in proportion to its gross domestic product (GDP), Lithuania is one of the largest donors to Ukraine in the world. You have become an example for Europe. Today you are a true inspiration for all Europeans,” stated der Leyen.
