The Russian system is weak in that information about the state of the Russian army is constantly embellished and inflated. This opinion was expressed on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel by a military expert, Major of the Reserve of the Israel Defense Forces Viktor Vertsner.
“It is weak at lying. But this is not the Russian army, this is the Russian system. The thing is, this whole system is built on, I would call it such a snowball. That is, here I am, for example, a battalion commander, I need to report the situation in my battalion to a higher level – the brigade commander. I report and embellish it a little. Well, who get back a little, and who more. The brigade commander does the same and reports to the division commander. The division commander also reports to the army corps commander… And so, in the end, when Putin receives information about the state of the army on his desk, it is no longer a snowball, it is already a big, huge, swollen snowball that has certain data on the situation in the troops . But all this data is inflated. And therefore, Putin’s biggest mistake at the beginning of this war is its very beginning. He overestimated his strength. He thought that more or less objective information was being reported to him, but the lies were terrible, ”said Vertsner.
He stressed that the Ukrainian military has a moral superiority over the Russian invaders, which affects motivation and so on.
“Ukrainians are fighting for their land, for their homes, for their families, and the Russians are fighting for a fairy tale, for an idea, for some kind of historical roots that they were told about, for lands that de facto belonged, of course, to the Russian Empire , but whether they were Russians is highly unlikely. Therefore, they are fighting for the idea that they were sold, and the Ukrainians are fighting for their home. The house will always win the idea,” said the expert.
Vertsner noted that certain processes are taking place today that make the Ukrainian army more efficient, thanks to the transition to NATO standards.
“Because NATO standards are simply in the conditions of modern warfare much more effective than slightly improved Soviet standards, and these are exactly the standards that are being appealed to in the Russian army today. They are more efficient because decisions are made at a low level. For example, the battalion headquarters accepts and plans its own operations … It has a sufficient staff of trained officers, each doing his own narrow job, each specialist in his narrow specialty. Therefore, they work as a well-coordinated mechanism. And all this is planning operations for the battalion, the same thing happens at the brigade level, at the division level and above, ”the expert said.
According to him, according to the Soviet system, the battalion headquarters does not plan anything, but receives orders from above, because it does not know how to do this, there is not enough staff, trained people, and so on.
“The division that sends orders down, they know how to read and carry out these orders. Therefore, if there is no communication with the division, if the division headquarters was subject to some kind of fire damage, the enemy has certain problems. In this case, if the battalion commander is a military genius, then everything will be fine, because he will be able to take into account all possible situations in his head and get out of the battle, let’s say, more efficiently than even the headquarters of the NATO battalion … But if there is no such military man, then the headquarters of the Russian army will always lose to the headquarters of the NATO battalion. And we know that there are few geniuses, most likely, it will not be there, ”said Werzner.
