While on a working trip in the Dnipropetrovsk region, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko met with creative intellectuals from the area. He also signed a Presidential decree conferring national status to the Taras Shevchenko Music and Drama Theatre of Dnipro, the Presidential Press Office reports.
“There is definitely no state without culture. This was well understood by the leaders of the Ukrainian Revolution, the 100th anniversary of which we celebrate this year,” Poroshenko said. He added that Ukraine honors the great legacy of the revolution that the Soviet empire failed to destroy – the National Library, Symphony Orchestra, Academy of Sciences, Museums, the Ukrainian language.
“The theater, which was born during the revolution, is still with is. Then the first State Drama Theater was established, which was destined to host a lot of events … I am especially grateful to the theater staff for their constant volunteering; for concerts and performances for the military units, hospitals; for your trips to the frontline; to the east of Ukraine with performances, where many people rediscover the Ukrainian language, culture, theater thanks to you,” Poroshenko said.
He also added that the theater turned 100 years old and that it has always been and remains one of the leading cultural institutions in Ukraine.
