Soldiers of the 24th Ukrainian Motorized Brigade Return from the Front Line

The town of Yavoriv in the Lviv region welcomed the soldiers of the 24th Ukrainian motorized brigade returning from the front line. Since the beginning of the Russian aggression, they’ve seen some of the heaviest fighting.

Serhiy Tretiak has been fighting in eastern Ukraine since the war began. At 26, he’s already heading a battalion. He took part in the liberation of Lyman, Zakitne, Yampil, Siversk, and other settlements.

“The task of our unit was to defend and liberate two towns – Shumy and Pivdenne, near Horlivka,” Tretiak said.

Tretiak’s wife, Maria, defends Ukraine alongside her husband. She has been on the front line for six months

“Of course, I worry for him, and he worries for me. But there’s a plus – I always see what’s he’s doing and if he’s alright,” she said. “We try to help them, bring something, or at least support them morally.”

Sofia Pavlysk is meeting her son and daughter. She will welcome them with their favorite meals and warm hugs. She said that although no one told her, she could sense that her son was wounded when he approached her.

The residents of Yavoriv welcomed the soldiers with Ukrainian flags and applause.

“We came to support them. It’s a great joy for us. We are meeting Ukrainian heroes. It’s a big event for our town,” Yavoriv resident Anastasia Omelian said.

In seven months, the soldiers liberated two towns in the Donetsk region. Over the four years of the war, 117 servicemen of the 24th brigade lost their lives defending Ukraine.

“The task for all units now is to deter Russian aggression and to prevent losses of our fighters, to prevent Russian aggression and propaganda from spreading,” Commander of the Operational Command ‘West” Oleksandr Pavliuk said.

The soldiers will rest at home for a month. Then, they will return for training and await orders to return to their positions on the front line.
