U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Russia is suffering between 5,000 and 6,000 military casualties each week in its war against Ukraine, underscoring the heavy cost of the conflict for both sides, UATV English reports.
Speaking to reporters in Manila, Rubio said Russia’s war against Ukraine is the only conflict he is aware of in which the number of soldiers killed in combat exceeds the number wounded.
According to Rubio, Moscow continues to sustain severe battlefield losses, while Ukraine is also paying a tremendous price in defending itself against Russia’s invasion.
Despite the ongoing fighting, Rubio said the United States remains committed to seeking a diplomatic solution and will continue efforts to find a compromise that could bring the war to an end.
His remarks came after a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of regional events in the Philippine capital.
