US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the approach proposed by the Russians last year in Anchorage failed, because it was unacceptable to Ukraine.
As UATV English reports, Rubio said this while speaking to the press in Manila, where he held a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.
Rubio was asked how relevant the proposals put forward by the Russians in Anchorage are today.
“The proposals that were reported — they call it ‘3+2,’ the division of territories — those attempts failed. Because a peace agreement cannot be concluded unless both sides agree to it, and the Ukrainians did not agree to it. That’s why those efforts produced no result,” the US Secretary of State stated.
He added that, given this, new proposals and new ideas will need to be found, “because clearly that option was unacceptable to Ukraine then, and I don’t think it’s acceptable to them now either.”
“In fact, it’s probably even less acceptable to them now. So I believe that if peace comes, it will be thanks to some new ideas and new concepts. And we’re ready to offer some of those under the right conditions and format,” Rubio said.
As a reminder, Rubio held a meeting in Manila with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. He stated that during the meeting with the Russian minister, he discussed the need to end the war against Ukraine.
Rubio also said he estimates Russian military losses in the war in Ukraine at 5,000-6,000 killed and wounded per week.
