Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out a series of long-range strikes overnight targeting Russian oil infrastructure, maritime logistics and military facilities, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said, UATV English reports.
One of the primary targets was the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat refinery and petrochemical complex in Russia’s Republic of Bashkortostan, approximately 1,300 kilometers from the front line. According to the General Staff, the strike caused a fire at the facility, with the extent of the damage still being assessed.
The complex is one of Russia’s largest oil refining and petrochemical plants, with an annual processing capacity of about 10 million tonnes of crude oil. It produces gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, lubricants and other petroleum products used by both the Russian economy and military.
Ukrainian forces also struck the Afipsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region, where a fire was reported near the facility. The refinery has a processing capacity of about 6.25 million tonnes of oil per year and is considered one of southern Russia’s key fuel production sites supporting the country’s armed forces.
In the Krasnodar region, Ukrainian forces also targeted a ship-to-ship oil transshipment area near Gelendzhik used for handling Russian crude exports and supporting military and maritime logistics.
According to the General Staff, Ukrainian forces additionally struck five oil tankers, five cargo ships and one harbor tug operating in the Sea of Azov. The vessels were reportedly part of Russia’s so-called shadow fleet used to transport oil and petroleum products while circumventing international sanctions.
On occupied Ukrainian territory, Ukrainian forces also hit a Russian ammunition depot in Donetsk and a logistics hub in Luhansk.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the operation, saying that Ukrainian naval forces successfully struck a Russian patrol ship and a shadow fleet tanker near Gelendzhik, about 430 kilometers from the front line, as well as three additional shadow fleet tankers in the Sea of Azov.
“Effective work by our Navy: approximately 430 kilometers from the front line. There were also successful strikes against three shadow fleet tankers in the Sea of Azov. I thank all our warriors who, through successful operations, are bringing the war back to where it came from. This war must be ended, and all worthy diplomatic proposals are already on the table,” Zelenskyy said.
