Russia would not have launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine had it known in advance how long the so-called “special military operation” would last, Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR), said, UATV English reports.

According to Budanov, the Kremlin significantly underestimated both Ukraine’s resistance and the duration of the war.

“If Russia had known in advance how long the so-called ‘special military operation’ would last, it would not have launched the full-scale war,” he said.

Budanov also commented on Ukraine’s relations with Poland, warning that the upcoming anniversary of the Volhynia tragedy could become a difficult period in bilateral ties.

“Poland may resort to a certain degree of escalation ahead of the anniversary of the Volhynia tragedy. The most difficult stage in our bilateral relations is still ahead, and this historical date will be the main challenge,” he said.

Speaking about the military situation, Budanov said Ukraine’s immediate objective is to stabilize the front line while increasing pressure on Russian forces through long-range strikes.

“The next task is to stabilize the front line. To achieve this, it is necessary to disrupt Russian logistics as much as possible,” Budanov said.

He added that Ukraine’s growing domestic defense industry already allows for a higher intensity of strikes against military targets inside Russia.

According to Budanov, expanding domestic weapons production is providing Ukraine with greater operational capabilities as it seeks to weaken Russia’s military logistics and sustain pressure on the aggressor.
