Germany’s Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said the war in Ukraine has entered a potentially decisive phase, stressing that allies must seize the opportunity to strengthen support for Kyiv.
Speaking to Spiegel, Pistorius commented on plans to establish a €40 billion Ukraine support fund at the upcoming NATO summit, saying the initiative comes at a critical moment, UATV English reports.
“The war in Ukraine has entered a potentially decisive phase, and we must seize this momentum. Ukraine needs funding to produce weapons and defend itself against Russia. I believe it is our shared responsibility not to give up,” Pistorius said.
His remarks come as NATO allies prepare to discuss additional long-term military assistance for Ukraine at the Alliance’s summit in Ankara.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Head of Mission to NATO, Alona Hetmanchuk, said the Alliance now coordinates more than 80% of all military assistance deliveries to Ukraine through the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU) mission based in Wiesbaden, Germany.
