French President Emmanuel Macron said the United States is no longer acting as a neutral mediator in Russia’s war against Ukraine but is now aligned with its European allies in supporting Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Macron said European leaders had found common ground with the United States during the recent G7 summit, UATV English reports.
According to the French president, the discussions produced progress not only on Ukraine but also on issues related to the Middle East, critical minerals, and rare earth materials.
“On Ukraine, for the first time, the United States supported a text in which it is no longer acting as a neutral mediator but, together with us, is defending Ukraine’s territorial integrity, providing military and energy assistance, and supporting sanctions against Russia,” Macron said.
Macron’s remarks come ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara next month, where allies are expected to approve a new €70 billion military assistance package for Ukraine. U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to attend the summit, while President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will lead the Ukrainian delegation.
