Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said it was fully justified that Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko will head the Ukrainian delegation at the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2026) in Gdańsk, arguing that the decision is intended to preserve the event’s practical and economic focus and avoid unnecessary politicization, UATV English reports.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said the conference had been preceded by a “very complicated information background.”

“I emphasize that this escalation was not initiated by Ukraine, and we never wanted it. The conference is extremely important. Therefore, the decision that this year Ukraine’s delegation will be headed by the prime minister is absolutely justified and aimed at ensuring that the conference remains within very pragmatic and economic frameworks, without excessive politicization and without scandals,” Tykhyi said.

He noted that 68 government delegations are expected to participate in the event, while the Polish delegation will be led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

“We expect the conference to be successful,” Tykhyi added.

The Ukraine Recovery Conference, scheduled for June 25-26 in Gdańsk, is expected to serve as one of the key international platforms for attracting investment, building partnerships and promoting practical solutions for Ukraine’s reconstruction.

About 1,000 companies are expected to attend, including roughly equal numbers of Ukrainian and Polish firms alongside other international participants.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously been expected to attend the conference. However, Polish President Karol Nawrocki’s June 19 decision to revoke the Order of the White Eagle previously awarded to Zelenskyy created tensions between Kyiv and Warsaw.

On June 20, Zelenskyy said he had returned the decoration to the Polish president by mail while stressing that Ukraine remains open to all meaningful forms of cooperation with its partners.
