Russia has amassed more than 140,000 troops across three key sectors in southern Ukraine, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi said after visiting frontline units in the region, UATV English reports.

According to Syrskyi, Russian forces have significantly strengthened their presence in the Oleksandrivka, Huliaipole, and Orikhiv directions, where some of the most intense fighting is currently taking place.

“The enemy continues to increase pressure. More than 71,000 Russian troops are concentrated in the Oleksandrivka sector alone, while a similar number are deployed in the Huliaipole and Orikhiv sectors,” Syrskyi stated. He noted that the battlefield situation remains highly dynamic, with both Ukrainian and Russian forces conducting active combat operations.

During his visit to the Southern Operational Zone, Syrskyi met with Major General Oleh Apostol, who commands the Air Assault Forces grouping, as well as commanders of airborne assault and assault units. The discussions focused on the current battlefield situation, the outcomes of recent operations, and measures needed to strengthen Ukrainian positions.

Following the meetings, Syrskyi approved a number of proposals from frontline commanders aimed at increasing operational effectiveness and ordered additional supplies of equipment and ammunition for the units involved.

He stressed that protecting the lives of Ukrainian service members remains the Armed Forces’ highest priority during combat operations.

The commander-in-chief also held talks with Major Robert Brovdi, head of the Unmanned Systems Forces Group, regarding the further development and deployment of drone capabilities. According to Syrskyi, Ukraine continues to expand its ability to strike Russian targets, including those located deep behind the front line.

Earlier, during his trip to southern Ukraine, Syrskyi also reviewed the readiness and organization of air defense units operating in the region.
