Recent incidents in which Russian forces have released glide bombs over Russian territory and temporarily occupied areas of Ukraine point to ongoing shortcomings in Moscow’s ability to accurately deploy its munitions.

According to UATV English, the UK Ministry of Defence reported on the social media platform X, citing intelligence findings, that such errors continue to occur.

Intelligence analysts, referencing the Russian independent outlet Astra, state that since the start of this year Russian forces have accidentally dropped 25 glide bombs on Russian territory and occupied regions of Ukraine. There were 143 similar incidents recorded in 2025 and 165 in 2024.

On May 16, a glide bomb was reportedly dropped on a residential building in the village of Dubove in Russia’s Belgorod region, killing one person.

The Russian Air Force is currently conducting more than 200 combat sorties per day against Ukraine, deploying between 180 and 250 glide bombs daily, depending on weather conditions.

The UK assessment concludes that these incidents highlight persistent failures in Russia’s targeting procedures. Such mistakes have caused destruction and fatalities among Russian civilians.

“These incidents likely result from a combination of flawed targeting procedures before missions and errors by aircrew during operations,” UK intelligence said.

Analysts further suggest that the frequency of these accidents may reflect fatigue among Russian personnel as well as insufficient training.

Earlier reports indicated that by March alone, Russian aircraft had already dropped at least 10 glide bombs on Russian territory in 2026.
