Ukraine is urging Italy to finalize the proposed Drone Deal as soon as possible, describing it as an important step toward deeper bilateral defense cooperation.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the proclamation of the Italian Republic, Serhii Kyslytsia said Kyiv expects the agreement to be completed in the near future, UATV English reports.

According to Kyslytsia, the deal would significantly strengthen cooperation between Ukraine and Italy in the defense sector, particularly as unmanned systems continue to play a central role on the battlefield.

He also praised Italy’s involvement in Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts, highlighting Rome’s support for the restoration of Odesa and other cultural heritage sites damaged during the war.

“Italy’s patronage of the restoration of Odesa and other cultural sites is not merely policy, but values in action,” Kyslytsia said.

The Ukrainian official emphasized that Italy’s own postwar experience gives it a unique understanding of Ukraine’s reconstruction challenges.

“Italy knows what it means to rise from the ruins,” he noted, thanking the Italian government and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for their continued support.

The comments come as Ukraine seeks to expand international cooperation in defense production and drone technology, an area that has become increasingly important as Kyiv works to scale up domestic weapons manufacturing and strengthen battlefield capabilities.

Earlier, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani reiterated support for strengthening Ukraine’s position in Europe and advancing the country’s path toward membership in the European Union.
