US President Donald Trump has commented on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s open letter to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and said he supports the idea of a meeting between the two leaders.

According to the White House, cited by UATV English, Trump stressed that both sides must find compromises in order to stop the loss of life on the battlefield. He also said that the United States played a significant role in facilitating the possibility of such a meeting.

“I’m glad that they may be discussing the possibility of a meeting. I think we played a major role in that. It would be great if they met. They need to do it. They will have to make compromises. I have proposed those compromises. I want each side to make certain concessions,” the US president said.

Earlier, it was reported that President Zelenskyy had sent an open letter to Putin. In the letter, the Ukrainian leader proposed a direct meeting to discuss possible ways of ending the war.

Zelenskyy emphasized that only a mutual decision by the leaders of the two countries could bring an end to the fighting.
