The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to advance legislation that would provide additional military assistance to Ukraine and impose tougher sanctions on Russia.

According to Republican Congressman Don Bacon, 218 lawmakers voted in favor of bringing the measure forward, while 204 voted against it. A final vote on the bill is expected to take place on Thursday, UATV English reports.

“The House of Representatives just voted 218–204 to advance a petition for military aid to Ukraine and tough sanctions against Russia. The final passage vote will be tomorrow. This is our ‘Churchill moment,’ and we must meet the test,” Bacon wrote on X.

The proposed legislation combines new military support for Ukraine with expanded sanctions targeting Russia, reflecting continued bipartisan efforts to strengthen pressure on Moscow.

The development comes shortly after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that news regarding an additional $400 million military aid package for Ukraine could be announced “very soon.”

If approved, the bill would mark another significant step in continued U.S. support for Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing aggression.
