European Pressure on China Could Help End War in Ukraine – Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump believes that European sanctions on China could push Beijing to pressure Russia to stop its war against Ukraine, he said in an interview with Fox News, according to Ukrinform.

“If they (Europe) imposed, for example, sanctions or tariffs—whatever you want to call it—if they did that against China, I think the war might end, because China is the biggest buyer of oil from Russia,” Trump stated.

He suggested that Europe has other levers of influence on Moscow as well.

“But if Europe did something regarding China, I think China would probably force [Russia] to stop this war,” the U.S. president added.

Trump did not say whether UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, with whom he met in London on Thursday, supports this idea.

Earlier, Trump said he does not consider the current moment right for sanctions against Russia, but does not rule out tougher measures in the future.
