UK Defence Secretary John Healey held a phone call on Friday with his counterparts from Italy, Turkey, Finland, and Ukraine, outlining ongoing efforts to bolster Ukraine’s position in pursuit of a just and lasting peace.
The UK Ministry of Defence reported the conversation in a post on X.
“Today Defence Secretary John Healey briefed partners on our continuing efforts to ensure Ukraine is in the strongest possible position to secure a just and enduring peace. A safe Europe requires a strong Ukraine,” the Ministry stated.
According to the UK MoD, Healey spoke with Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, Turkish Defence Minister Yaşar Güler, Finnish Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen, and Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council Rustem Umerov.
The Ministry stressed that the United Kingdom remains committed to supporting Ukraine in its current struggle and its pursuit of peace.
Earlier, on August 15, Healey said that a potential meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin “could be the first step” toward peace, adding that the UK is prepared to deploy troops to Ukraine should a ceasefire be reached.
