U.S. President Donald Trump summed up several rounds of negotiations on peace in Ukraine and announced that he is beginning preparations for a trilateral meeting with Zelenskyy and Putin.
He wrote about this on Truth Social.
Donald Trump stated that he had a “very good” meeting with the leaders of Ukraine, France, Finland, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, the European Commission, and the NATO Secretary General. He also confirmed that the meeting was held in several rounds: after Trump’s call to Putin, the talks resumed in a “leaders-only” format and took place in the Oval Office.
Trump did not go into detail about the substance of the talks, except for one point. “During the meeting, we discussed security guarantees for Ukraine, which will be provided by various European countries in coordination with the United States,” he added.
The outcome of the series of talks was the start of preparations for the first meeting between Zelensky and Putin since the beginning of the full-scale war. This meeting is to begin in a bilateral format, and then continue with Trump’s participation. “I called President Putin and began preparations for a meeting between President Putin and President Zelenskyy at a location to be determined later. After this meeting, a trilateral meeting will take place with both presidents and myself,” Trump said.
The U.S. president did not mention any preconditions for negotiations and said nothing about a ceasefire.
As reported, the German chancellor clashed with Trump over his “plan,” which does not include a truce.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he also wants to join the talks with Putin and supported the idea of a ceasefire.
