Ukraine’s newly appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Maj. Gen. Mykhailo Drapatyi, said serving Ukraine has always been an honor, but during the country’s war for independence it also means “absolute responsibility.”, UATV English reports.
In a statement published on social media following his appointment, Drapatyi thanked President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his trust, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal for his support, and Ukrainian servicemembers as he begins a new stage of military service.
“Serving Ukraine has always been an honor for me, and during the war for independence it means absolute responsibility,” Drapatyi wrote.
He also thanked his predecessor, Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi, for his leadership and contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s Armed Forces.
“I grew as a military officer under his command,” Drapatyi said, expressing gratitude for Syrskyi’s service and experience.
Drapatyi was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by President Zelenskyy as part of a broader overhaul of the country’s military leadership.
