Christian Lindner, leader of Germany’s Free Democratic Party (FDP) and former Finance Minister before the coalition’s collapse, has accused American billionaire Elon Musk of attempting to “weaken Germany” through his statements in support of far-right groups.

This was reported by Spiegel.

Lindner noted that while he admires Musk’s entrepreneurial achievements, he criticized Musk’s “hasty conclusions” about the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, describing it as “anti-freedom, anti-economy, and an ultra-right extremist party.”

“He (Musk) is trying to weaken Germany,” said the FDP leader.

Recent polls indicate that the Free Democrats might fail to enter the next Bundestag after February’s snap elections, with their support hovering between 3-4%.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also expressed concern about Musk’s support for the far-right AfD party, just weeks ahead of the country’s upcoming elections.

French President Emmanuel Macron indirectly accused Musk of interfering in European politics and supporting “reactionary movements” worldwide.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has also voiced concerns about Musk’s influence.
