President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday that Ukraine has reached an agreement with Greece on expedited gas supplies to compensate for shortages caused by Russian strikes, UATV English informed.
He said this at a press conference in Athens together with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Zelenskyy called it an “extremely important agreement” with Greece on gas supplies to Ukraine, adding that amid Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Kyiv needs to import gas.
“Our agreements with Greece today are an important part of the large energy package that we have prepared for this winter to provide Ukraine with gas,” the head of state said.
He added that gas supplies from Greece will begin already in January 2026.
In addition, Zelenskyy said, Ukraine and Greece have concluded long-term arrangements for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States.
The Greek prime minister, for his part, said that the gas deliveries will be carried out through an “important energy artery” connecting the Greek city of Alexandroupolis with Odesa.
“In this way, Ukraine gains access to reliable energy sources, and Greece becomes a hub for supplying American liquefied gas to Central and Eastern Europe,” Mitsotakis said.
As a reminder, Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Athens on Sunday, where he has already held talks with Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas.
Before the visit, Zelenskyy had announced the signing of an energy agreement with Greece.
