During Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Damascus, a trilateral meeting took place involving the teams of Ukraine, Syria, and Türkiye, UATV English reports.
The Ukrainian President announced this on Facebook.
“We are building new relations, new opportunities, and expanding our efforts to ensure security,” he wrote.
According to the President, the parties discussed a wide range of issues, “from security and defense issues and the situation in the region caused by developments around Iran, to energy and infrastructure cooperation between our countries
Work on food security will also continue.
“We discussed in detail how to overcome the consequences of the war, as well as the negotiation process regarding Russia’s war against our state and our people,” Zelenskyy noted.
He expressed gratitude to all Syrians who welcomed the Ukrainian delegation, recalling that Ukraine was among the first to support a new Syria following the fall of the Assad regime.
“We are ready to continue supporting stability and development. We will work even more closely together so that our peoples and our countries become stronger, and so that our economies can grow stronger as well.,” the President of Ukraine concluded.
Following talks between Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, the two sides reached an agreement to reopen embassies in Kyiv and Damascus.
This is according to Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry on Telegram.
“We agreed to reopen embassies in Kyiv and Damascus in the near future – an important step in strengthening our partnership.” Sybiha wrote.
He noted that the meeting covered a number of key areas and initiatives, primarily related to security.
“The security of Europe and the Middle East is interlinked. We will continue working together to advance a lasting peace for our peoples,” the Ukrainian minister said.
The sides also discussed logistics issues, including the development of trade and maritime routes.
“Food security remains an important track. Ukraine stands ready to contribute, including through initiatives such as Grain from Ukraine, to support stability in the region,” Sybiha added.
The ministers also addressed humanitarian and educational cooperation. “Many Syrian students have studied and continue to study in Ukraine – a strong foundation we intend to build on,” the Ukrainian foreign minister concluded.
As previously reported, the Presidents of Ukraine and Syria agreed to cooperate to enhance security and create more opportunities for development.
As reported earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy paid an official visit to Syria on April 5.
