The Russian army, losing on the battlefield, uses dirty tools: terrorist attacks on infrastructure facilities, provocations and operations under the conventional Ukrainian flag against the civilian population of the temporarily occupied territories. Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, said this on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel, commenting on the shelling of the temporarily occupied city of Donetsk.
According to him, since the beginning of December, various Russian information platforms, from television to the telegram channels of the so-called military correspondents, have intensified a campaign accusing Ukraine of shelling the peaceful infrastructure of Donetsk.
“There is information that units of the Russian army were instructed to collect fragments of foreign, that is, not Soviet, Western-style ammunition. We are talking about the 155 calibers, about all the ammunition that can show Ukraine’s “involvement” in the shelling of Donetsk. These remnants of ammunition are brought today purposefully to Donetsk. And then we see staged films and stories, ”the guest of the broadcast comments.
He noted that this is exactly the same as what could recently be observed in Energodar, Zaporizhia region when the occupied city was fired upon by the invaders themselves. Yusov stressed that most of the attacks on the center of Donetsk and its residential areas were mortars.
“We can assure you that the Ukrainian defense forces, of course, do not fire and do not target residential areas, civilian infrastructure. And, of course, when it comes to the threat to civilians, Ukraine, as a civilized peaceful state that respects international law, takes into account all these points, ”the intelligence representative emphasized.
According to Yusov, the purpose of such provocations is to undermine confidence in Ukraine, primarily on the part of international partners, so that international assistance, economic and defense, “which stops the advance of Russian troops and forces them to retreat,” is stopped. The guest of the broadcast noted that Russia would not succeed in this.
“We have shown that the actions of the Ukrainian defense forces are targeted and precise. Ukraine hits warehouses. Ukraine is hitting logistics centers. Ukraine hits the accumulation of manpower and equipment of the enemy. And, of course, there is no reason to destroy and endanger civilians and civilian objects,” Yusov said.
He stressed that such tactics are characteristic of the Russian occupiers, there are many examples of this both in the current war and in the recent history of the Russian Federation.
“Putin is an old FSB officer, and his methods are also old. This is how he began his ascent and his political career. We remember the blown-up houses with civilians on the territory of the Russian Federation itself, at the start of Putin’s political career. And, in general, these are the same methods that he and his regime, the occupying army continues to use. I am sure that after the victory and after the liberation of the Ukrainian territories, many of these facts will be revealed. Including, they will be investigated and there will be results of international tribunals,” Andrey Yusov emphasized.
