Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha responded to a statement by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi regarding the attack on a civilian vessel in the Caspian Sea.
He stressed this on X, UATV English reports.
“Iran’s threats are unjustified and baseless. The regime in Tehran is a direct accomplice in Russian aggression against Ukraine, fueling Moscow’s criminal war with weapons that have been killing Ukrainians since 2022,” the diplomat stated.
Sybiha stressed that Iran has no right to play the victim and justify its threats with absurd references to the UN Charter.
Through its statements, Iran is also trying to divert the world community’s attention from Russia’s terror against civilian shipping in the Black Sea, which threatens global food security, Ukraine’s foreign minister is convinced.
“But these attempts will not succeed. Russian attacks on freedom of navigation will be at the center of attention at today’s urgent UN Security Council meeting, and we expect a decisive response from the international community,” Sybiha added.
As previously reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier stated that Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck a warship and vessels in the Caspian Sea that were involved in transporting military cargo with Iran.
Iran subsequently accused Ukraine of attacking an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea.
Iran actively supports Russia in its war of aggression against Ukraine. Moscow, in turn, provides assistance to Tehran in its conflict with the US.
