Ukraine will begin participating in the planning phase of NATO exercises starting in 2027, allowing it to incorporate real-world combat experience from the war into Alliance training scenarios, a senior Ukrainian officer said.
Valerii Vyshnivskyi, Director of Program Implementation at the NATO–Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC), told Ukrinform that Ukraine will take part this September and October in the execution phase of the NATO exercises Steadfast Pyramid and Pinnacle, Noble Jolt, and Steadfast Duel.
“We will participate in these three exercises during the execution phase, focusing on the development and employment of land forces, command-and-control systems, and collective deterrence mechanisms,” Vyshnivskyi said.
He noted that these exercises are normally reserved for NATO member states, but Ukraine has been granted an exception.
Ukraine will also participate in the LCI-X exercise focused on modern air defense. During the drills, Ukrainian personnel will act as the opposing force, simulating Russian aviation and creating realistic battlefield scenarios.
According to Vyshnivskyi, Ukraine will be admitted to both the planning and execution phases of these exercises beginning in 2027.
“There we will be able to develop realistic scenarios,” he said.
JATEC is also preparing its 2027 work program, which will focus on innovation, testing joint defense technologies under real combat conditions, expanding Ukraine’s participation in NATO exercises, and integrating Ukraine’s battlefield experience into Alliance military training.
