UATV English reports that Ukraine has secured a seat on UNESCO’s Executive Board for 2025–2029, while Russia suffered another defeat, failing to get elected for the second consecutive time, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha announced on Facebook.

Sybiha said the competition was intense in the final weeks before the vote. Four countries—Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, and Russia—competed for three available seats.

According to him, Ukraine not only secured its place but did so with the highest score among all candidates — 137 votes.

“Despite massive Russian pressure and influence, despite forecasts claiming we had no chance and everything was already ‘decided’, we won cleanly: we not only blocked Russia but were elected ourselves with maximum support,” Sybiha stated.

He stressed that Ukraine shares this victory with its Romanian and Moldovan partners.

“Russia has now failed to enter the UNESCO Board for the second time in a row. And rightly so: an aggressor state that undermines the foundations of international law has no place in such important governing institutions,” the foreign minister added.
