Russian drones struck the Lviv region on March 24, injuring at least 26 people and causing fires in residential areas, including damage to a UNESCO-listed heritage site in central Lviv, UATV English reports.
According to Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi and Regional Governor Maksym Kozytskyi, explosions were heard in the city during an air raid alert as air defense systems were activated.
A residential building in central Lviv was damaged, while fires broke out at multiple locations, including Soborna Square, Brativ Rohatyntsiv Street, and Chervonoi Kalyny Avenue. Emergency services were deployed across the affected areas.
The Bernardine Monastery Ensemble, a national architectural landmark located within Lviv’s historic center and included on the international list of cultural heritage under enhanced protection, was also damaged. Fire affected structures within the complex.
In addition, debris from downed drones caused a private house to catch fire in the village of Sernyky in the Bibrka community.
Strikes were also recorded on critical infrastructure facilities in the Komarno and Dobrosyn-Maheriv communities.
Initial reports indicated several injuries, including at least one person in serious condition. The number of injured later rose to 22 people hospitalized in Lviv, and subsequently increased to 26 across the region.
Authorities warned of the continued threat of repeated drone attacks and urged residents to remain in shelters.
