The knowledge Ukraine has gained through its full-scale war against Russia carries immense value for NATO and European countries as they prepare to meet modern security challenges, according to former Polish Defense Minister Janusz Onyszkiewicz, in an interview with Ukrinform.
Onyszkiewicz said NATO is continuously studying the war in Ukraine to refine its own approach to contemporary warfare. “NATO constantly analyzes what is happening in Ukraine. After all, there is a dedicated NATO center in Bydgoszcz that conducts precisely this kind of analysis (JATEC – ed.). This is extremely valuable knowledge that demonstrates entirely new methods of warfare,” he said.
He noted that the Alliance is also working to gauge how closely a potential NATO-Russia conflict might resemble Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. “This analysis is necessary, particularly to understand how similar a possible conflict between NATO and Russia might be to the current war in Ukraine,” he said.
At the same time, Onyszkiewicz cautioned that any future armed confrontation between NATO and Russia wouldn’t necessarily unfold the same way the war in Ukraine has since 2022. “We must also understand that such a conflict would not necessarily be a copy of what has been happening in Ukraine since 2022. However, the experience of this war, as well as the knowledge and methods developed by Ukrainians, are undoubtedly of tremendous value to Europeans,” he said.
As previously reported, the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC) is developing technological solutions to better protect tactical transport vehicles and military personnel on the battlefield — a key factor in ensuring the safe evacuation of wounded soldiers.
