One of Russia’s largest oil refineries has halted operations after being targeted by Ukrainian drone strikes, according to Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, UATV English reports.
“Russia’s fourth-largest refinery has stopped operating as a result of drone attacks,” Kovalenko said on Telegram.
The facility in question is the Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region, which has a processing capacity of around 320,000 barrels per day.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Defense Forces confirmed strikes on the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez plant in the city of Kstovo during the night of April 5.
The refinery is considered strategically important for Russia, supplying fuel not only to its armed forces but also to the Moscow region, accounting for nearly 30% of the country’s total gasoline consumption.
With an annual processing capacity of about 17 million tons of crude, the plant produces more than 50 types of petroleum products, including aviation and diesel fuel used by Russia’s military-industrial complex and its forces.
