Poland has put forward a proposal for the United States to establish joint production of Patriot air defense missiles with Ukraine, with manufacturing based in Poland as a secure production location.
Polish Deputy Minister of National Defence Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka announced this during a visit to Washington, according to UATV English, citing PAP.
Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said she presented the proposal in meetings with Pentagon and US State Department officials, explaining that Poland’s plan addresses certain concerns raised by the American side. She noted that Poland has proposed a trilateral arrangement involving the US and Ukraine, designed to ensure production takes place in a secure setting.
She said the initiative responds directly to comments US President Donald Trump made at the NATO summit, where he indicated his administration was open to considering production of Patriot system components in partnership with Ukraine.
According to the deputy minister, Patriot missiles rank among the most sought-after weapons systems globally, and Poland hopes to secure a role in their joint manufacturing.
During the talks, Poland also made the case for establishing a regional Patriot maintenance and service center on its territory. Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said US officials responded favorably to Poland’s expanding defense industry and its strategic position on NATO’s eastern flank.
Discussions also touched on expanding the US military presence in Poland. She noted that the US has already formed a dedicated working group to develop this project, with a parallel team operating within Poland’s Ministry of National Defence.
She further expressed hope that an agreement could be signed within the coming weeks on a new $4 billion US credit line for Poland under the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program, intended for purchasing American weapons systems.
Sobkowiak-Czarnecka stressed that Europe’s SAFE defense financing mechanism doesn’t restrict the purchase of American military equipment, and that the two instruments can work together to strengthen defense capabilities for both Poland and NATO’s eastern flank.
As previously reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with a Raytheon delegation led by Vice President Joseph DeAntona to discuss joint production of Patriot missile interceptors. Earlier reports also noted that Trump said, ahead of meeting Zelenskyy in Ankara, that his administration was preparing to grant Ukraine a license to manufacture Patriot interceptor missiles. Zelenskyy has said he hopes Ukraine will receive the licenses needed to produce Patriot missiles by the end of 2026.
