Russia considering nonessential embassy staff withdrawal from Ukraine

Russian Foreign Ministry considers the temporary departure of the Russian embassy staff from Ukraine. It concerns the non-key personnel, TASS Russian news agency reports with the reference to its sources source from the Russian Embassy.

“The issue of nonessential personnel of the embassy leaving Ukraine for a while is actively looked into,” a diplomat spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Against the background of information about the threat of a new Russian invasion of Ukraine, in January 2022, some Western partners (Canada, US, UK, Germany, and Australia) announced the withdrawal of the families of its diplomats or members of the mission. This order would be reviewed within 30 days.

Earlier today, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the intelligence around a Russian invasion of Ukraine was gloomy. “This is probably the most dangerous moment, I would say, in the course of the next few days, in what is the biggest security crisis that Europe has faced for decades, and we’ve got to get it right,” British PM said.

All Ukraine’s western partners agree that diplomacy is the best hope for heading off a deeper crisis.
