The most unusual Summer Olympic Games in history start in Tokyo today.

They were supposed to take place a year ago. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, the competition was postponed for a year. These are the first Games to be carried over. Also the only ones to take place in an odd year. The debuts of new disciplines will also take place at this Olympiad – karate, rock climbing, surfing and skateboarding.
Ukraine will be represented by 158 Olympians in 25 sports.
The opening ceremony will take place at the Tokyo National Stadium. Only journalists and officials will be present in the stands, including French President Emmanuel Macron and US First Lady Jill Biden.
The competition will last until August 8.
