New Prime Minister of Ukraine – Who Is He?

Oleksiy Honcharuk has been appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine, the youngest in the country’s history. 290 MPs voted for the representative of the Servant of the People party.

A Ph.D. in Law and Master of Public Administration – at just 35 years of age Oleksiy Honcharuk has extensive experience as a lawyer. He entered politics in 2014 when he ran for parliament with the party “Syla Liudey” or Power of the People.

“The society is completely consolidated and is waiting for changes. You need to look around, grow up and be responsible,” Honcharuk said.

The party failed to win any seats in Parliament and Honcharuk continued his activities as a government adviser. And in 2015, he became head of the BRDO analytical center under the Cabinet of Ministers – the organization for developing and implementing more effective government regulation and partnerships between the government and business.

“We have picked four priority sectors — agriculture, construction, electricity, and grid connection, as well as control and supervision. They were selected based on consultations with our western partners. Our focus is on small and medium-sized businesses, which are the locomotive of the economy,” he said.

On May 28, 2019, Oleksiy Honcharuk was appointed deputy head of the Zelensky’s Presidential Office. He was responsible for the economic sections of the cabinet. Now, Honcharuk has been approved by 290 parliament members as the new Prime Minister — the youngest ever in Ukraine’s history.

“We’ll stop funding inefficiency, we’ll stop providing monopolists with super-profits. This is another difficult task which is also a priority for the government. The president has set us a very ambitious goal. He keeps reiterating that things are taking too long. He said, ‘ Let’s do everything that’s necessary within 5 months.’ And I absolutely agree with him,”
