In an interview with RMF24, Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andrzej Szejna says NATO is discussing the option of shooting down Russian missiles if they get too close to its borders.

“But this would have to happen with the consent of the Ukrainian side and taking into account international consequences. Then NATO missiles would hit Russian missiles outside the territory of the Treaty (NATO — ed.),” explained Polish politician.

He added that an incident with Russian missile crossing the Polish border was also an act of terrorism and that it was intentional so that Russia could “check the strength of defense and the vigilance of the Polish armed forces”.

Previously, the Russian Ambassador to Poland ignored Poland’s summons to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs due to a Russian missile entering Polish airspace on March 24.

Szejna called this act “diplomatic desertion” and added that the Russian Ambassador flagrantly violated the Vienna Convention when he refused to show up and provide any explanations.

He made it clear that the protest note will find the Russian side anyway, through the Polish ambassador in Moscow, for example.

“It cannot be that the aggressor will impose certain rules on us every time,” stressed Szejna and reminded about the upcoming NATO summit in July and the consolidation the EU and NATO have.

On March 24, Russian missile X-101 entered the airspace of Poland for 39 seconds. Poland deployed F-16s, but did not act on the missile because it did not go further in the Polish territory.
