President of France Emmanuel Macron doesn’t rule out sending troops to Ukraine if Russians break through line of contact and Kyiv requests assistance.
He said this during an interview with The Economist.
“I’m not ruling anything out, because we are facing someone who is not ruling anything out. We have undoubtedly been too hesitant by defining the limits of our action to someone who no longer has any and who is the aggressor!” Emmanuel Macron told The Economist.
French President is convinced that the enemy can’t know what to expect, and that’s a specific deterrance tool in this situation as Russia is also unpredictable.
Macron noted that the French military has practised military intervention to fight to fight terrorism at the request of other sovereign states, in Africa in particular.
He then reiterated that Russia must be defeated if Europe wants to preserve peace and avoid spending much more money to fight against Russia in the future.
“I have a clear strategic objective: Russia cannot win in Ukraine. If Russia wins in Ukraine, there will be no security in Europe. Who can pretend that Russia will stop there? What security will there be for the other neighbouring countries, Moldova, Romania, Poland, Lithuania and the others?” Macron stated.
However, the French leader doesn’t regret about European diplomatic decisions towards Russia in the past.
“We were right to take the diplomatic route. I have no regrets about what was done during all those years. These steps undoubtedly slowed things down and also enabled us to build joint European demands with regard to Putin. A power of peace, power of balance,” Macron explained.
