The Czech Republic will not hold traditional meetings with Slovak government as the states demonstrate very different positions in Russia-Ukraine war.

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala wrote on X that Czechia can not ignore Slovakia’s controversial foreign policy and its view on Russia-Ukraine war.

He added it’s not appropriate to hold intergovernmental consultations with the government of Slovakia in the next weeks and that the Slovak side is aware of such a decision.

Slovak PM Robert Fico accused Czechia of craving war but added Slovakia strives to preserve “deep relations” with the Czech Republic.

Fico claims the Czech government is ‘interested in supporting war in Ukraine’ and ready to sacrifice Slovakia-Czechia relations while Slovakia “pursues peace” and is always ready to greet the Czech officials in Slovakia as countries have “deep relations”.

Last week, foreign ministers of Slovakia and Russia met in Turkey.

Slovak PM described this act of cooperation with the aggressor as “balanced and sovereign Slovak foreign policy toward all sides.”

Meanwhile, Czechia is leading an initiative to urgently procure ammunition shells for Ukraine.
