It is possible that Ukraine could become a member of NATO during the war – expert

Some representatives of the North Atlantic Alliance have repeatedly stated that Ukraine will join NATO when the war unleashed by Russia ends in Ukraine. But this approach is wrong. This opinion was expressed on the FREEDOM TV channel by Sergei Jerj, candidate of political sciences, head of the Public League “Ukraine – NATO”, assessing the prospects for Ukraine’s accession to NATO.

He agreed with the assumption that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, who started the war, hears such words from NATO representatives, and in the Kremlin. The aggressor country can wage war, albeit not on the same scale as now, locally, but endlessly.

“That’s absolutely right, maybe even the war will end, for example, Ukraine will reach its borders, return Crimea, Donbass, and this will definitely happen, but Russia can fire at Ukraine once a week. That is, the war has already ended, or has not yet ended, it is already possible to join NATO or not – if you pose questions like this, then this is an argument for Putin to never end this war. And this does not apply only to Ukraine, it may also apply to other states. He can thus provoke and restrain Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia from cooperation with NATO, from joining NATO. The same applies to Moldova and other states. So this is the wrong approach, I think,” Jerge said.

According to the expert, at the last NATO summit in Vilnius last year, an opinion was voiced, they said orally, that after the end of the war, Ukraine would be a member of NATO. But it’s good that this was not written down in the final declaration.

“Because if it is written in such a final document, this decision already has legal status. It’s not there. There is talk there that Ukraine will be a member of NATO when the allies agree to this. That is, theoretically, it is possible that Ukraine could become a member of NATO during a war,” said the head of the Ukraine-NATO Public League.

Let us recall that earlier Jerge said that Russia has already attacked NATO and is waging a hybrid war against the countries of the European Union and the countries of the Alliance. Kyiv’s partners must use the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, because the Ukrainian Armed Forces today are the only force fighting Putin.
