Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held his first meeting with new British Prime Minister Andy Burnham aboard the Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth at the Portsmouth naval base, marking the first visit by a Ukrainian delegation to the UK since Burnham took office, UATV English reports.

Zelenskyy said the timing of the visit carried particular significance as a signal of continuity in British support for Ukraine.

“It is important for Ukraine to have enough capability to protect lives, both in the sky and at sea,” Zelenskyy said, adding that Burnham assured him support for Ukraine remains unchanged.

The two leaders discussed Ukraine’s air and maritime defense needs, as well as the expansion of joint defense production between the two countries. Zelenskyy thanked Britain for its decision to provide Ukraine with electronic warfare technology to protect Ukrainian drones.

“It will certainly be useful on the battlefield. Together we can do even more in the field of drones and other technologies,” Zelenskyy said.

He also invited Burnham to visit Ukraine.

“Thank you, Britain!” Zelenskyy said.
