Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the European Union to adopt its 21st sanctions package without delay and completely block the flow of components used by Russia’s defense industry, following another large-scale overnight missile and drone attack on Ukraine, UATV English reports.
According to Zelenskyy, Russia launched 135 drones and 10 missiles, most of them ballistic, targeting cities and critical infrastructure across the country.
In the Kharkiv region, seven people, including a child, were injured after Russian strikes damaged residential buildings, a gas station, and railway infrastructure.
Three more people were wounded in the Chernihiv region, where attacks damaged a residential building and energy infrastructure, leaving thousands of households without electricity. Emergency crews are working to restore power.
Russian strikes also damaged an apartment building in Zaporizhzhia, while ballistic missiles hit Kyiv, where 16 sites, including a school and an industrial facility, sustained damage. Critical infrastructure was also targeted in the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, and Odesa regions.
“The pressure on Russia must increase. There is no time to lose, and the EU should adopt its 21st sanctions package this week,” Zelenskyy said.
He warned that every day of delay gives Moscow additional time to adapt to future restrictions.
“Every day sanctions are delayed gives Russia more time to prepare for them,” the president said.
Zelenskyy also called for a complete halt to the supply of components supporting Russia’s military production.
“All components—chips, microchips, dual-use goods—everything Russia uses to prolong the war and attack people must be stopped,” he said.
The Ukrainian leader added that agreements reached with European partners on developing a common anti-ballistic missile defense capability could significantly strengthen security across the continent.
“Our agreements with partners on a European anti-ballistic defense are exactly what can provide greater security for our people,” Zelenskyy said.
He urged governments and defense companies to work together to build a reliable missile defense architecture for both Ukraine and Europe.
“Every company and every country must become a true defender of life. Together, we have sufficient capabilities to build genuinely reliable protection for Ukraine and all of Europe,” he said.
