Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck 12 Russian tankers, a tugboat, a cargo vessel, an oil terminal, and an ammunition depot during a large-scale overnight operation aimed at reducing Russia’s military and economic capabilities, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said, UATV English reports.

According to the General Staff, the operation was carried out during the night of July 9 and targeted key military and military-economic assets used to sustain Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Among the targets were 12 tankers, one tugboat, and one cargo ship operating in the Sea of Azov. Ukrainian officials said the vessels were used to supply fuel and lubricants to Russian forces and to transport oil and petroleum products in circumvention of international sanctions.

The General Staff noted that these ships support Russia’s energy exports, which remain one of the Kremlin’s primary sources of funding for the war.

Ukrainian forces also struck the Yug Rusi oil terminal in Bataysk, Rostov Oblast. A fire was reported at the facility following the attack.

According to the military, the terminal is used to transfer petroleum products for export and to supply fuel to Russian troops operating on the southern front.

In addition, Ukrainian forces hit a Russian ammunition depot near Sorokyne in the temporarily occupied Luhansk region.

The General Staff said assessments of the damage inflicted on all targets are ongoing.
