Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha welcomed the unanimous approval by all 27 EU member states of the position on the first accession negotiation cluster for Ukraine, calling it recognition of Ukraine’s reform efforts and a confirmation of the EU’s commitment to a merit-based enlargement process, UATV English reports.

The minister thanked the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, the European Commission, and all EU member states for their leadership, unity, and continued support for Ukraine’s path toward membership in the European Union.

“We now look forward to the Intergovernmental Conference in Luxembourg on June 15, where Cluster 1 is expected to be officially opened for Ukraine. We remain focused on implementing reforms and steadily advancing the accession process. Together, we are bringing the reunification of Europe closer and building a stronger, safer, and more united European future,” Sybiha said.

The decision paves the way for the formal opening of Cluster 1 – ‘Fundamentals’, which covers key areas such as the rule of law, judicial reforms, democratic institutions, public administration, and fundamental rights.

As previously reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to address EU leaders during the meeting of the European Council in Brussels on June 18–19.
