Russia carried out one of the largest combined air attacks on Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion, targeting Kyiv and other regions with hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles, Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine Katarina Mathernová said, UATV English reports.
According to her, overnight, Russia launched 675 attack drones and 56 missiles, including Kinzhal aeroballistic, Iskander-M ballistic, and cruise missiles, with the Ukrainian capital as the main target.
Explosions were heard across Kyiv throughout the night, with around 20 locations hit. Among the damaged sites were residential buildings, a school, a veterinary clinic, and civilian vehicles.
A nine-story apartment building in the Darnytskyi district on the left bank of the Dnipro River was struck, causing the central section to collapse and trapping residents under the rubble. Rescue operations are ongoing as emergency workers continue searching for victims.
At least one person has been confirmed dead and dozens injured, with the number of casualties expected to rise.
Mathernová noted that the overnight strike followed another massive daytime assault, during which Russia launched more than 750 drones. In total, over a 24-hour period, Moscow deployed around 1,429 attack drones and 56 missiles against Ukraine — making it the largest wave of attacks since the beginning of the war.
The EU ambassador stressed that such large-scale strikes on civilian infrastructure indicate further escalation by Russia and demonstrate a lack of genuine willingness to end the war.
“Russia escalates. It is not interested in long term peace. It cannot obey even an agreed ceasefire. Brutally attacking civilians is what it does when it cannot prevail on the battlefield. Cowards”, she stated.
