Russian occupying forces carried out a massive overnight attack on Ukraine on May 14. Kyiv, Chernihiv region, Mykolaiv region, Kyiv region and other regions came under fire, UATV English reports citing local authorities and the State Emergency Service. Zelenskyy also reported about the consequences of the Russian attack.
A large-scale Russian drone and missile attack on Kyiv overnight left a residential building heavily damaged, with one person killed and dozens rescued from the rubble, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
According to the head of state, rescue operations are ongoing at the site of a strike on a nine-story apartment building, where an entire entrance section was completely destroyed. Emergency services continue searching for people who may still be trapped under the debris.
“Dozens of people have been rescued. Unfortunately, one person has been killed. My condolences to the family and loved ones,” Zelenskyy said.
The attack was part of one of the most intense aerial assaults in recent months. Overnight, Russia launched more than 670 attack drones and 56 missiles of various types at Ukraine, including ballistic, aeroballistic and cruise missiles, with Kyiv identified as the main target.
In the capital, damage was recorded at around 20 locations, including residential buildings, a school, a veterinary clinic, and other civilian infrastructure facilities.
Strikes were also reported in the Kyiv region, while energy infrastructure in Kremenchuk and port and residential areas in Chornomorsk came under attack.
Zelenskyy emphasized that since the beginning of the previous day, Russia has used more than 1,560 drones against Ukrainian cities and communities, calling the scale of the attacks further evidence that Moscow is not seeking to end the war.
“This is certainly not the behavior of those who believe the war is nearing its end,” he said.
The president urged international partners to respond strongly and continue supporting Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. He highlighted the importance of strengthening protection against ballistic threats and maintaining pressure on Russia.
“It is important that partners do not remain silent about this strike. Continued support for our air defense is crucial,” Zelenskyy added.
